London Employability Trek

I am grateful and honored to have been one of 25 students chosen for the University of Edinburgh Business School's London Career and Employability Trek D that took place this past week.

Let me tell you about my Trek experience as an MSc HRM student! ☺️

Over the three-day Trek, I gained a fresh perspective on organizational culture, learned how to be more intentional with my unique skill set, and met many inspiring professionals.

We visited three organizations: NatWest Group, Havas, and dentsu. Each company presented us with unique perspectives and insights, but there were two key common themes amongst them all:

πŸ—£οΈ Relationships. Connections. Communication. - As a "people-person," it was refreshing to hear just how important interpersonal skills are, regardless of field or discipline. In a way, communication is becoming a dying art. So, to combat this, whether you are offering encouragement, asking questions, seeking mentorship, or building our professional community, you should exhibit confidence and be intentional.

🎒 Your career path won't be a straight line...and how great is that?! - This was the hot topic of the Trek, and for good reason. As young professionals and students, we tend to lean into the assumption that our careers will play out as we envision or intend. The professionals we spoke with showed me that by being adaptable, open to new opportunities, and having the ability to recognize your transferable skills, your career can take you in any direction!

Overall, the Trek was a defining moment in my time here at The University of Edinburgh. I left London with strong professional relationships and an excitement for the future of my career!
